Music / Band Program Update

The Cowden-Herrick School District would like to announce that a K-12 music and band program will be offered to the student body for the 2022-2023 school year.  Students in grades K-5 will have a forty-minute music class one time a week (similar to how art is currently offered).  General music classes will also be offered as electives at the 8th grade and high school levels.  Furthermore, 6th through 12th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in band.  During registration next year, families will have the opportunity to meet the new music/band teacher and sign up to attend an instrument fair.  The instrument fair will be held the evening of Tuesday, August 9th and will be a time where families/students can meet with the band teacher and representatives from The Music Shoppe, a well know music company, to experiment with various instruments before choosing one to learn.  Students will also have an opportunity to meet with the band teacher during the first week of school to experiment with various instruments.  Once students decide on an instrument, families have the option of buying the instrument through their own sources/place of their choosing or renting or buying an instrument through the The Music Shoppe.  In addition, the district is accepting donated instruments with the hopes of making those instruments available to students in need.  The district is excited to be able to offer this opportunity for our students!
